10 Ways to Raise Awareness of Celiac Disease

1. Share a “Are You The ONE?” color flyer with friends and family who are unaware of celiac disease and its symptoms or give them the new "Are You The ONE?" color brochure.
2. Write your Congressperson and them ask to co-sponsor/support H. Con. Res 70, designating May as Celiac Disease Awareness Month.
3. Contact the health editor of your local newspaper and ask them if they know about celiac disease. Write them a letter and share your story.
A Mission of Nutrition

This summer, The Intestinal Health Institute is hosting a family camp in the Jemez mountains of New Mexico catering to individuals with food sensitivities. The camp will serve only healthful, organic, gluten-free food and will also be able to accommodate those who follow dairy-free, yeast-free, egg-free and soy-free diets.
Activities for parents and children will include archery, swimming, fishing, wall climbing, high ropes, riflery, and arts and crafts.
Help Raise Awareness about Celiac Disease
Submitted by arico on Tue, 05/13/2008 - 10:00pm.The American Celiac Disease Alliance is urging the celiac community to support the National Celiac Disease Awareness bill (HConRes 70), currently pending in Congress, which would help raise awareness about celiac disease, the world’s most common genetic disorder.
The legislation asks Congress to increase federal funding for celiac disease and research, support health care providers and celiac disease advocacy and education organizations to encourage screening and early detection of celiac disease, and promote the goals and ideals of National Celiac Awareness Month.
Arico Supports Public Radio
Submitted by arico on Wed, 05/07/2008 - 10:00pm.Volunteers for Oregon Public Radio’s ongoing pledge drive have been snacking on cassava chips donated by Arico Natural Foods to keep them going during the five-day on-air fundraiser.
Almost two-thirds of OPB's operating budget comes from individual membership contributions from viewers and listeners. According to OPB, the on-air drive is the most efficient way for the station to attract the largest number of new and renewing members.
The radio pledge drive began Monday and will continue through Saturday.

With summer vacations on the horizon, Loretta Jay shared her advice for traveling with food allergies with the British magazine Food Matters. Planning ahead is the first order of business, according to Jay, a mother of two celiac children and the founder of Parasol, a consulting organization that specializes in the management of food allergies and celiac disease. Among the helpful travel tips she offers to families:
